Barcelona are reportedly interested in Bayern Munich’s Jérôme Boateng as a means of solifying their backline, despite the recent €20 million arrival of 30-year-old French centre-back, Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia, but other reports have Barca denying interest.
According to Radio Marca, Barcelona appreciate the 25-year-old German International’s versatility and would be willing to pay Bayern’s €39 million asking price for the 2014 World Cup winner, as he would be able to cover the backline and the right-back spot, should Dani Alves leave this summer.
The report went on to add that Barcelona feel that Boateng have all the qualities they want in a player, but have yet to make a formal approach.
Real Madrid have also expressed interest in Boateng, but it is currently unclear if they are actually interested or just want to drive up the price, but stated it was enough to cause Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta to prepare a bid and begin initial talks.
However, Barcelona-based sports daily, SPORT have revealed that Barcelona are not looking at Boateng, but are still interested in signing another centre-back.
