Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti feels that no conclusions should be drawn from Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Manchester United in front of nearly 110,000 spectators at ‘The Big House’ and that this squad is stronger than the team that won the Champions League last season.
In his post-match press conference, Ancelotti spoke about how he sees his team going into the UEFA Super Cup.
“We aren’t happy about the defeat. I’m sure we’ll play with a different spirit in the Super Cup. These are just warm-up matches. We didn’t do well, but everything will change next week.
“We can’t be ready at this point in the season because some players only started training a week ago. They are not fully fit. What happened today is normal, because the team isn’t used to playing without Cristiano and other players. Our quality will improve once the other players return.
“The atmosphere was fantastic. We’re not used to playing in front of so many people. These games allow players to get fit. It’s good, after a week of work, to have this kind of match.
“Why does Real Madrid keep coming to America? We have everything we need here to have a good preseason. It’s important to play against good teams like Manchester United.”
Ancelotti then spoke about the 20 minute run out he gave Cristiano Ronaldo and the arrival of his new teammate, James Rodriguez.
“Cristiano was doing so well that I gave him 20 minutes. He’s in good physical shape. With a week of training, he’ll be ready for the Super Cup.
“James is training in Valdebebas. He could be ready for the Super Cup too.”
On the topic of transfers, Ancelotti had no news on the status of Sami Khedira or Angel Di Maria.
“I’ve only spoken with Khedira and Di Maria to tell them that they better be here on the 5th.”
Ancelotti concluded by discussing the goals goalkeeper, Iker Casillas allowed.
“I’m fine with the goals. Casillas will play the Super Cup and then we’ll see.”
