Adebayor has all the physical traits
required to be a top striker, but the way he is influenced by personal problems
is a cause for concern, writes Stan Collymore
I’ve interviewed Emmanuel Adebayor a
couple of times and he is a lovely man as well as being a very good footballer.
He has everything you want in a central striker. But I don’t think those managers
who got six months out of him and then saw him fall woefully short were wrong
to get rid of him.
If I were Tim Sherwood I would be thinking about milking
every last drop out of him at Spurs this season before
flogging him to whoever is willing to pay the most in the summer.
Adebayor always seems to need an arm
around him and that worries me. If you look at a player like Wayne Rooney,
whatever he has going on off the field – personal problems, contract wrangles –
you are still guaranteed the same commitment.
To get the best out of Adebayor, you
have to make a special case of him and that is not good for the dressing room.
If I were Sherwood I would be
wondering if he could cost me my job as soon as he goes back to not fancying it
again.
I actually go along with this.
