Arsene Wenger pleased with a 'welcome' three points as Arsenal romp to Sunderland win

The Gunners rebounded after the Champions League loss to Bayern Munich with an excellent display against Gus Poyet's League Cup finalists

Arsene Wenger was delighted with what he termed a "welcome" three points after seeing his Arsenal side claim a 4-1 win over Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium.
Following a difficult midweek defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, the Gunners bounced back with a dominant first-half showing against the Black Cats.
Olivier Giroud (2) and a wonderful Tomas Rosicky goal had Arsenal three-up at half-time, while Laurent Koscielny added a fourth in the second period.
And although Emanuele Giaccherini breached the Arsenal backline late on, Wenger was more than happy to get back to winning ways.
"After playing for so long with 10 men in a difficult game in midweek against Bayern Munich it was good to win today," said the Arsenal boss.
"The three points are welcome.
"Tomas Rosicky's goal was one of the best [we have scored] and one of the two Olivier Giroud goals is a great goal.
"That is the way we want to play and when we score it makes you happy because it enforces the way you want to play."
"Tomas' goal was a great strike. I am so pleased for him because he is a fantastic football player and we love him here. To get on the end of a good move was great for him."

The three points keep Arsenal second in the Premier League table - one point behind leaders Chelsea and two in front of Manchester City (who have a game in hand) - having taken just one point from their last two matches.
And Wenger acknowledges that his side needed to return to win to continue pressuring their rivals.
"We are still there in the table," added the Frenchman.
"It is down to consistency and our performances.
It was important to win the game. We lost to Liverpool and drew with Manchester United. We needed to win this game."
