The singer "nearly
went broke" after buying a $7 million mansion even though she was in 'no
position to spend that kind of money'
It's a good week to be Rihanna, who has won a settlement of over $10
million in a court case against her accountant.
The Barbadian singer sued Peter Gounis and firm Berdon
LLP, claiming they told her she was okay to buy a $7 million house in Southern
California, even though they knew she was "experiencing financial
difficulties".
According to the New York Post, RiRi - suing under her real name Robyn
Fenty - had lost $9 million, leaving her with $2 million by the end of 2009.
Rihanna's lawyer Edward Estrada wrote: "The defendants advised Ms.
Fenty by e-mail that purchasing a home in Los Angeles ‘would be a good
investment’ despite knowing Ms. Fenty was experiencing financial
difficulties."
They claimed that Peter knew the home was rotting from water and mold
damage, which meant she had to spent over $1 million on improvements before selling
it for almost $2 million less than its original price tag.
The accountants were fired and sued for $35 million in 2012, but it is said
the firm have now offered her a settlement of more than $10 million, which she
has accepted.
Details of the lawsuit obtained by TMZ had
claimed she was "effectively bankrupt" in 2009.
To further add to her financial woes that year, the singer's expenses
"doubled", claimed the gossip website.
In the lawsuit, the Diamonds singer also claimed her 2009 Last Girl on
Earth tour was losing money but she was never warned of this by the
accountants.
