Handful of Manchester United players set for 25 per cent pay cut if they miss out on Champions League

Leading stars have clauses in their contracts despite the rarity of finishing out of the top four positions in the Premier League

Manchester United players will feel the financial pain if they miss out on the Champions League, writes Dean Jones of the Sunday People.

A handful of Old Trafford’s stars have clauses in their contracts with 25 per cent pay cuts if they fail to feature in the competition – even though that has been a rarity at United.

The basic salary of several will be slashed, with the chance of lucrative bonuses also off the agenda.
So while the United money men will miss the millions that the Champions League regularly brings, many players are going to share the pain.
An insider told the Sunday People: “It’s a clause that a lot of the lads have.

"It’s not been an issue before but it will be now.”
