The Gunners welcome the Champions
League holders to the Emirates on Wednesday and skipper Lahm is looking forward
to the last 16 encounter
Tough task: Lahm is relishing the
challenge at the Emirates
Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm
is relishing the "tough" task that awaits his side when they travel
to the Emirates to face Arsenal on Wednesday.
The Champions League holders will continue their
defence against the Gunners in the last-16 first leg, having
taken on all comers in the past 12 months.
Bayern are 13 points clear at the
top of the Bundesliga and progressed from the group stages comfortably,
although their defeat to Manchester City led to questions about their over-confidence.
However, Lahm insists that is not
the case and claims last year's treble has given them extra motivation to do so
again.
The German told the Guardian: "I think it's good when you
lead from the front, we saw that last season. It gives you so much confidence.
"The biggest danger for us,
right now, is facing Arsenal in the last 16. It's a tough draw. A lot can
happen in those two games. It'll be two teams that are very good tactically and
technically. I'm really looking forward to that game. I think every football
fan is."
The last-16 tie is a repeat of last season's encounter at the same
stage, where Bayern went through on away goals after a 3-3 draw on aggregate.
And Lahm is expecting an even
tougher task this time around, having kept a close eye on his international
colleagues Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski, throughout this
campaign.
He continued: "I follow Arsenal
a bit more this year and they've left a good impression. They've become much
stronger, the squad is more balanced."
