But the Arsenal boss insists his
side will not give up chasing them down until the last game of the season
Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out
his Arsenal side's chances of winning the Premier League this season by
declaring it is 'Chelsea's to lose.'
With the FA Cup taking a priority
this weekend the league will take a back seat with Jose
Mourinho's
team on top of the table.
And Wenger's startling announcement
comes just days after both Arsenal and Manchester City failed to take advantage
of their slip-up against West Brom.
His north London side drew with
Manchester United while City's game was called off due to bad weather.
But the Gunners' boss was quick to point out his team
will not give up chasing the leaders until the last game of the season.
"It (title race) is very
open," admitted Wenger. "Only Chelsea can lose it because they are in
front and all the other teams can win it.
"If you're not in the race you
cannot lose it, if you declare yourself not in the race you cannot lose it,
simple as that.
"I think just that our job is
to be ambitious and to try to win, if we do not win to take full responsibility
for that. That's as simple as that and that's how I see it.
"I say yes we are in it, yes we
will have a go for it, we will absolutely give everything to go for it and if
we don't do I will take responsibility for it, but I just see it like
that."
His side take on Liverpool in a
mouth-watering clash on Sunday in the
Fifth Round of the FA Cup.
It will give his team an early
chance to get revenge for the 5-1 mauling by Brendan Rodgers' outfit last weekend.
He added: "These guys are
winners. When they lose in that way believe me they are hurt.
"When you can put things right,
you want an opportunity to do that and we have an opportunity.''
