The club's midweek game against
Sunderland was postponed because of bad weather - creating a congestion of
matches later in the season
Manuel Pellegrini has revealed his
concern at fixture pile-up which could ultimately wreck Manchester City's
quadruple bid.
City's Premier League game against
Sunderland on Wednesday was called off due to adverse weather
conditions around the Etihad Stadium, which made it unsafe for the match to go
ahead.
It means the game will have to be
rearranged at a later date, which has raised the prospect of fixture
congestion, with City fighting on four fronts for the Premier League, Champions
League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.
Pellegrini's side have already had
to put the derby with Manchester United back until March 25, because of their
involvement in the Capital One Cup final on March 2.
"I think both things are good
and bad," said Pellegrini. "It’s better to have more rest because we
have two important games on Wednesday, Saturday and Tuesday.
"But as we postponed the game
against Sunderland we will have a lot of games in midweek at the end of the
season.
"We postponed the game against
Sunderland and we already postponed the Manchester United game because we are
in the Capital One Cup final.
"If we continue in the FA Cup,
we must postpone one more game. We will have to postpone the [Premier League]
game with Aston Villa [on April 8].
"But, with the way it [the
weather] was on Wednesday, it was impossible to play."
City host Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie on Tuesday, with Pellegrini set to be without key duo Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Matija Nastasic, all of whom remain injured.
But the City boss has been boosted
by the return to fitness of Samir Nasri and Javi Garcia, both of whom are
expected to start against Chelsea in the FA Cup at the Etihad tomorrow.
"For now, it's not planned for
Aguero and Fernandinho to play on Tuesday," said Pellegrini. "They
are not fit for this game [Chelsea]. But Nasri and Garcia are both fit for this
game."
