The Brazilian got stuck
into City ahead of this week's crunch Champions League encounter at the Etihad
Barcelona's Dani Alves last night blasted Manchester City, claiming: You
may have money but you’ve got no class, writes Steve Bates in the
Sunday People.
The 30-year-old Brazil full-back, who lines up for the Catalan giants at
the Etihad in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday, is no fan of
buying success and believes the Barca way of nurturing their own young stars is
the best model.
And Alves warns that Barcelona are coming to Manchester to win, not park
the bus to contain Manuel Pellegrini’s stars.
Alves said: “City have good players – but they will never be Barcelona.
They are a modern football club built on big transfer fees – but at Barcelona
there is a history and class that dates back a long way.
“So much of Barcelona’s success is because of players who have come through
the club’s youth system, La Masia, and I think ideally that is what every
football club wants to achieve.
“We know we have a big test coming up against Manchester City – and we
expect two very tough games.
“They have very good international players in every position – and we will
need to play well if we are to progress in a competition that means so much to
everybody at Barcelona.
“They are not easy to beat in Manchester – but not one Barcelona player
will be thinking about getting a draw. We will play to win.”
And Alves warned City that while they may focus on stopping fit again
Lionel Messi, shutting him down totally will be another matter.
“Since he came back it does not even look like Messi has been away – he is
back to his best” says Alves.
“You can study him all you want – but at times he is unstoppable.”
