Deserved to lose: Mourinho admitted City were the better side at the Etihad |
The Blues were beaten 2-0
at the Etihad on Saturday evening and the Portuguese accepts his side were
simply second best throughout
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho accepted Manchester City deserved to progress
to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup at the expense of his side.
City secured a 2-0 win at the Etihad,
courtesy of goals in either half from Stevan Jovetic and Samir Nasri. It ended the Blues' pursuit of the trophy, just a day after
Mourinho labelled Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger a
"specialist in failure".
However, the Portuguese was magnanimous in
defeat, admitting he had no complaints at the final score.
"I don't say my team failed, I say City played much better than us,
deserved much more than us to win," he said.
"The situation is simple to analyse: they were the best team, they
won."
This defeat at the Etihad came just 12 days after Mourinho delivered a
tactical masterclass as his side defeated City 1-0 in the Premier League. And
the 51-year-old believes the manner of the loss showed how good his side level
of performance was on their previous visit.
He added: "The second goal was an offside but we would still have lost
1-0 as we were never close to scaring City in the game.
"Today proved how difficult it is to win here, which shows how well my
team did in the last game."
